The Roll Up hitmaker took to X on Saturday morning with a straightforward message: “I’m not doing interviews till Nairobi the album is done.”
The post quickly gained traction among fans, who interpreted it as a sign that the project, named after his young daughter, is finally entering its final stretch. Supportive replies poured in, with one user urging “No distractions. Straight recording bangers!!!” and another simply declaring, “Let’s go HITMAN.”
For Emtee, the decision fits a familiar pattern. The rapper has a history of naming major projects after his children. His debut album Avery (2015) was named after his first son, while Logan (2021) paid tribute to his second. Nairobi, announced years ago, continues that deeply personal tradition, honouring his daughter born in 2023.
The album has been in the works for some time. Emtee has previously spoken about incorporating live instruments (keys, drums, and choral elements) as a way of showcasing a broader range of his musical ability beyond traditional trap production. In earlier posts, he described it as potentially his best work yet, though the project has faced delays, including pushback earlier this year as he focused on other releases under the Trap Temptations banner.
By shutting down media appearances for now, Emtee is signalling a clear priority: finishing the music without outside noise. The music industry constantly pulls artists between promotion, features and public demands, yet Emtee’s decision stands out as a clear and deliberate choice to prioritise the work. Fans of the Soweto-raised star have waited patiently through DIY 3 and a string of collaborations. Now that he has fully locked into Nairobi mode, the message could not be clearer. The interviews can wait. The album cannot.
