England switch up for All Blacks clash

Scrumhalf Ben Spencer will make his run-on debut while Ellis Genge and Tom Curry are among those recalled to hosts England’s starting XV to face New Zealand on Saturday.

Head coach Steve Borthwick on Tuesday named the six-cap Spencer alongside flyhalf Marcus Smith in the halfback pairing for England’s end-of-year opener at Twickenham.

Vice-captain Genge returns at loosehead prop after missing the July tour due to a calf injury. Curry strengthens the back row, joining No 8 Ben Earl and Chandler Cunningham-South on the opposite flank.

Lock George Martin will partner Maro Itoje in the second row, covering for Ollie Chessum’s recent knee injury.

Outside centre Henry Slade, recovered from shoulder surgery, resumes his midfield role alongside Ollie Lawrence. Fullback George Furbank, too, is back and links up with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Tommy Freeman in a dynamic back three.

Hooker Jamie George retains the captaincy, while fellow veterans Dan Cole and George Ford are set to make an impact off the bench.
