Here is the latest injury update on forward Bukayo Saka ahead of the England vs Ghana fixture in the 2026 World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel has provided a clear update on Bukayo Saka’s fitness ahead of the England vs Ghana upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage matches, stressing that the winger will only return fully when he is completely ready.
Saka, who recently rejoined full team training in Foxborough, Massachusetts, has been closely monitored after dealing with a persistent Achilles issue picked up in March 2026 during Arsenal’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
“I’m not in the physio department, but he hasn’t missed a day of training, so I think that’s a good thing,” Tuchel explained. “He’s played so many games over the last few years. He’s a crucial player for Arsenal and England, and he brings quality to the pitch.”
The England boss added that managing minor injuries during a major tournament is essential, especially for key players expected to make an impact in the latter stages.
Saka’s issue has been managed carefully throughout the tournament. He was initially left out of the starting XI for England’s opening Group L match against Croatia, featuring only as a second-half substitute in a brief 18-minute cameo. Despite that, he still made an impact, assisting Marcus Rashford in a 4-2 victory.
However, the effort reportedly caused renewed discomfort, forcing him to miss a training session and to undergo an individual recovery programme before returning to full training.
Tuchel is expected to continue managing his minutes cautiously, with reports suggesting Saka may not start again until England’s final group fixture against Panama on June 27, depending on his recovery progress ahead of the upcoming clash against Ghana.
