Eric Chelle takes on a new coaching role

Super Eagles of Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle has taken on a new coaching role under his new contract.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has been handed an additional responsibility after being appointed head coach of Nigeria’s U23 side, the Dream Team.

The decision was reached during a high-level meeting held on Tuesday at the National Sports Commission headquarters in Abuja.

Present at the meeting were NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, and Chelle himself.

The appointment forms part of a strategic move aimed at strengthening the country’s football development structure and ensuring continuity between the senior national team and the Olympic squad.

Nigeria remains the first African nation to complete the full set of Olympic medals in men’s football. The Dream Team won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, claimed silver at the 2008 Beijing Games, and secured bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

With Chelle now at the helm, attention will turn to restoring the U23 side to the global stage and adding another chapter to Nigeria’s proud Olympic legacy.
