Franco Smith admitted Glasgow Warriors have been brutally exposed during their South African tour after back-to-back hammerings by the Stormers and Lions.
The Scottish club surrendered top spot on the Vodacom URC log to the Stormers following a 48-12 defeat in Cape Town on Saturday. Smith says it may just be the wake-up they needed heading into the playoffs.
DOBBO: Focused Stormers stuck to plan
“The last thing I want to do is to make excuses in front of the media,” Smith after the game.
“This is the tough part of the season. We knew we’d have to redefine our form after the Six Nations.”
Glasgow arrived in Cape Town under pressure after their collapse in Johannesburg, but matters only worsened as the Stormers physically dominated the visitors and punished their mistakes ruthlessly.
Smith admitted his side may already have had one eye on next week’s challenge, but believes the timing of the defeat could ultimately benefit Glasgow.
“To come down here was always going to be tough. I would lie if I said we didn’t have an eye on next week.
“But this has happened at the right time for us. I think you can’t hide from the fact that there are one or two things that need to be adjusted.”

The former Springbok assistant coach also credited the South African teams for exposing Glasgow’s weaknesses with brutal efficiency.
“They are good teams. You give them a sniff; they take it away.
“I think we weren’t allowed to play the way we wanted to play in the last two weeks, and compliments to the South African game.
“So, it is what it is. I’m not going to make more of it. We were disappointing. We are disappointed.”
