Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg says he feels he owes the Vodacom Bulls after a knee injury limited his contribution following his return from France last year.
The Springbok lock made four appearances for the Bulls at the start of last season’s URC campaign before injury struck.
The 32-year-old wore the No 5 jersey in the Bulls XV’s Currie Cup defeat to Boland in Wellington last week and will start against defending champions Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday.
“I actually feel guilty because I haven’t really been able to make a contribution yet,” Janse van Rensburg told Netwerk24.
“I asked Coach Phiwe [Nomlomo] to include me in his [Currie Cup] plans. It’s wonderful to be back on the field. It’s been such a long time since I last played.
“These days, the Currie Cup is a competition featuring younger and up-and-coming players, but I feel I can use my experience to give back and help some of the young guys.
“At the same time, it’s an opportunity for me to put myself in contention for the URC.”

Janse van Rensburg, who earned his solitary Test cap off the bench against Argentina in 2021, says the Bulls must up their game to beat Griquas.
“We didn’t start well last weekend and we want to improve on that. We’ll need to limit our errors and find a way to stamp our authority on the match.”
