Two former All Blacks believe Springbok centre Damian de Allende’s try at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday should have been disallowed.
De Allende crossed in the 22nd minute of the Boks’ 33-26 victory against New Zealand, which levelled the four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series at 1-1.
However, former All Blacks fullback Mils Muliaina and hooker James Parsons claim Bok hooker Deon Fourie obstructed Simon Parker as the flank attempted to tackle De Allende.
“There’s where he goes through, right? If Parker gets there a couple of seconds earlier, he could have made a dominant tackle,” Muliaina said on Sky Sport.
“How can you not check that? When you’ve checked everything else? That’s obvious.”

Parsons was adamant the try should not have stood.
“He didn’t even try to get back. He purposely created that space. I don’t want to sound like a whinger, but that’s not a try.”
TMO Brett Cronan did review the build-up to the score with referee Angus Gardner, but their focus was on whether Bok flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu had knocked the ball forward.
“It’s not clearly and obviously forward, so I’m going to go through to the grounding to confirm that,” Cronan said.
Gardner agreed that the ball had gone backwards before striking a foot, and De Allende’s grounding was also deemed legal. The possible obstruction involving Fourie and Parker was not reviewed.

The try gave the Boks a 17-7 lead, and they went on to hold off a late All Blacks fightback to claim a seven-point victory.
The teams meet again at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.
