iFani Launches Open Verse Challenge For ‘Shake’ Remix. The release of Shake [Remix] has barely settled, and iFani is already stirring the pot, inviting rappers across the scene to prove their worth in an open verse challenge that is gaining serious traction.
The veteran rapper, real name Mzayifani Mzondeleli Boltina, took to social media to issue the call after hearing murmurs that some MCs believe they could outshine the current remix. In a direct message blending confidence and curiosity, iFani wrote: “WHO wants an open verse? Some are sayin they can do better kule Remix ka Shake. I’d love to hear it. Actions speak louder than words.”
He continued in Xhosa and English, asking: “Nguban ofuna iOpen Verse? Put your name down in the comments Or Bhala igama lomntu ofuna afake iVerse.” Translation: “Who wants the open verse? Write the name of the person you want to add a verse to.”
The Shake [Remix], which dropped earlier this week under disGuiz and licensed to CCA, features iFani alongside contributors Sosoboy Fosho, Gaffi, Khitha Pinca, and Musa. A music video, building on the energy of the original 2013 hit “Shake,” is set to land soon, marking a nostalgic yet fresh chapter for the artist more than a decade after the track first shook dancefloors across Mzansi.
iFani, known for his sharp lyricism, cultural fusion of hip-hop with Xhosa roots, and unapologetic energy, has long been a force in South African music. From his gold-certified debut album I Believes in Me to later projects, he has carved a lane that celebrates authenticity and community. Now, as he teases his upcoming album 3rd Quadrant, this open verse invitation feels like a strategic move to spark collaboration and discover fresh talent.
The challenge comes at a time when remixes are breathing new life into classic South African anthems, encouraging a new generation of rappers to prove their bars.
