JP wishes Bongi the best

Sharks coach JP Pietersen hopes Bongi Mbonambi will fight his way back into Springbok contention after the hooker’s departure from Durban.

Mbonambi has signed a one-year contract with the Stormers and is set to come off the bench against Ulster at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The Sharks and Mbonambi agreed to end his contract by mutual consent earlier this week, bringing his time in Durban to an immediate close.

The 35-year-old had been involved in a disciplinary dispute with the Sharks over an alleged breach of team rules.

“From our side, we just want to wish Bongi all the best,” said Pietersen after naming his Sharks team for Saturday’s match against Munster in Limerick.

“I also sent him a WhatsApp message to wish him well, both as a coach and as a former player.

“He’s one of the best players, and hopefully he can get back into the Springbok mix and play some good rugby.

“I want to wish him and his family all the best as he starts this new chapter at the Stormers. Hopefully, everything works out for him, and perhaps we’ll see him again soon.”
