Junior Boks simply way too hot for Chile

The Junior Boks ran in 15 tries as they crushed Chile in their U20 International Series encounter in Cape Town on Thursday.

South Africa won 97-0 at Rondebosch Boys’ High after leading 52-0 at half-time.

The Junior Boks started superbly and Chile did well to repel multiple attacks in the opening minutes.

But just when Chile thought they had weathered the storm and made their first foray into South Africa’s 22, the home side cut loose with a devastating counter from deep.

Fullback Alzeadon Felix and left wing Lindsey Jansen combined to send No 9 Jayden Brits over, with Sharks flyhalf Vusi Moyo adding the extras.

Two minutes later, it was the turn of centre Pieter van der Merwe and right wing Jade Muller to combine to send skipper Risima Khosa over.

There was more pain for the visitors at the first scrum as the Junior Boks piled on the power.

Minutes later, it was Khosa who laid on the final pass for Muller to cross.

The Boks were in full flow and there were further tries, which included a second touchdown for each of Khosa and Muller, as the score ballooned out to 33-0.

Next to cross was tighthead prop Luan van der Berg, and almost straight from the kick-off, South Africa were in again as Muller completed his hat-trick, before flank Gert Kemp rounded out the scoring in the first half.

RASSIE: Boks have spread the net

The second half was barely two minutes old when Van der Merwe crossed for the Junior Boks’ ninth try, followed by Khosa’s hat-trick.

There were further scores by prop Kai Pratt, and doubles from hooker Altus Rabe flank Quintin Potgieter in a second half disrupted by substitutions.

On Tuesday at Wynberg Boys’ High, Chile take on Georgia, followed by the Junior Boks against Fiji.
