Former Springbok flyhalf Pat Lambie has revealed just how much the Sharks’ 2010 Currie Cup triumph still means to him.
Lambie admits that the famous victory ranks among the best days of his life – even ahead of his wedding day and the birth of his three children. Obviously said with his tongue firmly in his cheek.
Speaking on the PlayZN TMO podcast with former Sharks coaches John Plumtree and Grant Bashford, Lambie reflected on a magical 2010 campaign that culminated in the Sharks beating a star-studded Western Province at a packed Kings Park.

Lambie, who had just turned 20 at the time, played a starring role in the Sharks’ memorable triumph and was subsequently included in the Springbok squad for the first time.
“That’s up there with the best day of my life really. Kate knows it as well. It supersedes our wedding day and it probably supersedes the birth of our three children as well,” Lambie joked.
“That just couldn’t have been scripted any better for us as a Sharks team and for me personally as well. Kings Park was packed to the rafters, playing against a loaded Western Province side.”
The conversation also turned to the remaining clashes between South Africa’s URC clubs and the All Blacks, with Lambie urging the Sharks, Vodacom Bulls and Lions not to become overwhelmed by the occasion.

He believes the matches should instead be approached as an opportunity to experience something South African teams no longer get to enjoy regularly: playing against New Zealand opposition.
“I really hope that all of these franchises can adopt the mindset of not necessarily playing against an All Blacks side, which is a massive occasion and once in a lifetime potentially for some of them, but maybe to look at it as if they’re going to be playing against a Super Rugby New Zealand franchise side, which they don’t get to do anymore,” Lambie said.
“Rather than let the huge occasion of playing against the All Blacks get the better of them, to try and not play it down but to try and have the mindset of saying, OK, cool, we’re playing against the Hurricanes or the Chiefs or the Crusaders in front of our home crowd, and really try and give it their best.”
