Lions expect to face full-strength Leinster

The Lions are bracing for Leinster’s best ahead of next Saturday’s Vodacom URC quarter-final at the Aviva Stadium.

Leinster face Bordeaux Bègles in Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup final in Bilbao before turning their attention to the Lions in Dublin.

Lions defence coach Jaque Fourie believes the Irish province’s extraordinary depth means there will be no drop in quality.

“Any side that Leinster are going to put out in a quarter-final is going to be a good side, so we need to be at our best next Saturday.”

Kicking coach Morné Steyn said Leinster’s mindset would remain ruthless regardless of the Champions Cup result.

“If they lose it, they’re going to go flat out for the URC. If they win the Champions Cup, they’re going to go for the double. I don’t think they’re leaving anything to chance.”

The Lions recently faced an understrength Leinster in Dublin and were competitive for long periods before the hosts pulled away late to win 31-7.

Head coach Ivan van Rooyen believes the experience has given his side a clearer picture of what to expect.

“Ten to one they will pick an even stronger team for the quarter-final,” he said. “But we have big expectations and are massively excited for next weekend.”
