Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen has provided an update on Springbok utility forward Ruan Venter and their other injured players.
The 23-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury against Leinster in Dublin in May, which required surgery.
Venter has one Test cap, having made his Bok debut against Portugal in Bloemfontein in 2024.
Speaking after the Lions’ 35-19 win against the Ospreys at Ellis Park on Saturday, Van Rooyen revealed that Venter remains some way from returning.
“Ruan is unfortunately still scheduled for early next year, so he’s still out for a while,” Van Rooyen said.

There is better news regarding wing Angelo Davids and centre Bronson Mills.
“Angelo has been doing full training last week for the first time,” said Van Rooyen. “We’ll have to have a look on Monday and Tuesday to see where he is.
“Bronson is training flat out but not yet selectable. I believe November is still a little bit early for him, but if he keeps tracking the way he’s tracking, anything is possible.”

Meanwhile, centre Henco van Wyk missed the Ospreys match after developing delayed concussion symptoms during the week.
“We didn’t want to take a risk there,” Van Rooyen said.
The Lions travel to Pretoria next Saturday for a Jukskei derby against the Bulls.
