Lions stars to join Bok camp online

Lions players invited to this week’s Springbok alignment camp in Cape Town will participate remotely.

The Joburg-based side has opted to remain in Ireland ahead of their Vodacom URC quarter-final against Leinster in Dublin on 30 May.

Loose forwards Francke Horn, Bathobele Hlekani and Siba Mahashe, scrumhalves Morné van den Berg and Haashim Pead, centre Henco van Wyk and fullback Quan Horn were all included in Rassie Erasmus’ alignment camp group.

Tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye was also invited before receiving an 18-month doping ban last week.

Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli told Netwerk24 that the Lions players would attend the camp online, with the in-person sessions taking place from Tuesday to Thursday.

A second virtual alignment camp will be held for overseas-based players.

The Springboks kick off their 2026 campaign against the Barbarians in Gqeberha on 20 June.
