Elrigh Louw says the Springboks are ready to face a “quality” Argentina side after their one-point defeat in Santiago two years ago. SIMON BORCHARDT reports.
The flanker came off the bench when the Boks suffered their only loss of the 2024 Rugby Championship campaign, with flyhalf Manie Libbok missing a late penalty goal attempt.
He expects another fierce contest in Buenos Aires on Saturday.
‘We know Argentina are a quality side,’ Louw said. “I think we learned our lessons the last time we played here.
“They’re a really physical, quality side. We took our lessons from that and we’ve prepared well.”

Louw has earned 14 Test caps since making his Springbok debut in 2022, but missed the entire 2025 international season after suffering a horrific injury while playing for the Bulls, damaging ligaments in his left knee and breaking his leg.
“Obviously it was quite a big injury and devastating for me at the time,” he said.
“But I had a lot of support behind me. My whole family helped me get back, along with the medical staff and everyone involved in my rehab.
“We worked hard to get back onto the field in the time that we did.
“The motivation of getting back into the Springbok squad was more than enough for me to keep working hard.
“Mentally, forgetting about the injury was also a big part of it.”

The 26-year-old was not included in the Boks’ original squad for last month’s Nations Championship Tests, but was called up after Riley Norton suffered a hamstring injury.
“‘You get your opportunity and you just do the best of your ability to use it,” he said.
Louw marked his return with a try off the bench against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld and has now been handed the No 7 jersey for Saturday’s match.
With the four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks fast approaching, a strong performance in Buenos Aires will strengthen his case for selection.
