Marcell Coetzee says the Bulls are determined to turn their URC final heartbreak into motivation as they target a breakthrough title this season.
The captain believes the Pretoria-based side is better prepared to challenge for the trophy after reaching the final last season. The Bulls have appeared in four URC finals in five seasons since the competition’s inception, and lost all four.
Coetzee says last season’s run, despite a difficult start, has given them confidence.
“For us to qualify for last season’s final after a difficult start tells you about the character of this team and how everyone bought into the plan,” he told Netwerk24.

The Bulls kick off their campaign with a two-match tour, with matches against Zebra in Parma on Saturday and Munster in Limerick a week later.
“There is nothing quite like a tour for a team full of newcomers to start getting to know each other better,” Coetzee said.
“It is very important to have depth in your team and you build on that depth by, especially on tours like these, getting further buy-in from everyone in the group to the plans we have.”

The Bulls face the added challenge of managing a demanding URC campaign, with extensive travel and the return of Springboks requiring careful player rotation.
“Psychologically, I feel we are better prepared this season and we are looking at new ways to keep opponents at bay. There is a lot of excitement about what this group can achieve,” Coetzee said.
