The interim manager of Michael Carrick have lashed out at the poor referee officiating decision after his team’s 2–1 defeat to Leeds United.
Carrick expressed his frustration with the red card shown to Lisandro Martínez, describing it as “one of the worst decisions I’ve seen. He criticised the VAR intervention that led to the dismissal, suggesting it had a major impact on the outcome of the match.
The former Manchester United defender pointed to an earlier incident in the build-up to Leeds’ opening goal that he felt should have been penalised. He also argued that key officiating calls went against his side and disrupted their rhythm.
However, he tried to strike a measured tone about the bigger picture. He insisted the defeat would not change his belief in the team.
He said,
“It’s not going to suddenly change my opinion on what we are as a team.”
The Red Devils are still sitting comfortably in third place ahead of their Premier League game at Stamford Bridge when they face Chelsea. United fans will hope that their team will still secure Champions League qualification despite the recent result against Leeds.
