“There are rules, and the rules are that it’s not fair. Life is not fair. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Nota stated during his latest rant on the Music Pulse Podcast.

He wasted no time driving the point home with raw examples. “You’re tall. You’re taller than Karishma. It’s not fair,” he said. “Some people are prettier than other people. It’s not fair. Life is not fair.”

Nota then turned his attention to one of the most debated categories, slamming the nomination process. “Worst styled artist gets nominated for best styled artist. It wasn’t fair that she was nominated in the first place. It wasn’t fair.”

His message was clear and uncompromising: when the system is stacked against you, stop expecting justice. Adapt to the reality instead.

“You understand? These awards are bought. Ricky Rick told you kids that,” Nota reminded everyone, referencing the late rapper’s past exposés on industry politics. “So buy the award, but don’t complain about it.”

The fiery remarks have ignited fierce debate across social media following the conclusion of this year’s Metro FM Awards. While some artists celebrated wins amid strong fan support and radio dominance, others were left questioning how certain nominations and victories came about.

Nota’s unapologetic stance cuts straight to the truth many have quietly questioned within the South African music industry, that success is often shaped more by image, financial muscle, industry connections, and calculated deals than by raw talent alone. His remarks mirror sentiments once voiced by Riky Rick during his Metro FM Awards acceptance speech.

Boss Zonke didn’t hold back, pointing out that a significant amount of quality music never reaches the airwaves simply because emerging artists lack the funds to pay for airplay. He urged young musicians to shift their focus away from traditional platforms, encouraging them to build momentum online instead of chasing radio spins or award recognition. In his view, the system is deeply flawed, with corruption playing a major role in how music is selected and celebrated.
