Okmalumkoolkat Shines Light On Producer Khanzi Mnguni’s Contribution To “iTheku eThekwini” Album. Okmalumkoolkat is giving credit where it is due, highlighting producer and engineer Khanzi Mnguni’s contributions to his latest album, iTheku eThekwini.
The Durban-born rapper recently took to Instagram to share a throwback photo from one of their earliest studio sessions, reflecting on the work they put into the project and expressing his appreciation for Mnguni’s role behind the scenes.
“This is one of the first sessions we shayad with @khanzimnguni_ who produced the beat for Uzongithanda Unomphelo, he also engineered a lot of recording sessions for this offering. I just wanna send a s/o and big thank you to uBaas! I appreciate you broer,” he wrote.
Mnguni produced the beat for “uZongithanda uNomphelo,” the seventh track on the album’s 11-song tracklist, and shares credit with Okmalumkoolkat on the record. His involvement extended beyond production, with the engineer also handling recording duties across several sessions that contributed to the album’s overall sound.
Released on 22 October 2026 through Sjambok Studios, iTheku eThekwini finds Okmalumkoolkat drawing from his Durban roots while continuing to push the experimental and culturally rich sound that has distinguished his catalogue, including projects such as Mlazi Milano and uShukela eTiyeni.
The album has been years in the making, with the rapper previously expressing his desire to capture the weight of the information, experiences and changing realities that defined the 2020 to 2025 period. The result is a body of work shaped by his artistic vision and the collaborators who helped bring it to life.
Okmalumkoolkat’s latest shout-out offers a glimpse into those creative partnerships, acknowledging the people whose work often happens away from the spotlight. By revisiting one of their first sessions and thanking Mnguni directly, the rapper has highlighted the importance of collaboration in bringing iTheku eThekwini to fruition.
