The 23-year-old, who earned his fifth Test cap in the No 6 jersey, received 51% of the vote in SARugbymag.co.za’s post-match poll, with replacement scrumhalf Morné van den Berg (13%) and outside centre Canan Moodie (9%) a distant second and third respectively.
De Villiers played the full 80 minutes at Optus Stadium, winning a joint-high three turnovers alongside Wallabies opensider Fraser McReight. He also made 10 tackles, missing three, and gained 24m from seven carries.
