RG Snyman is on the mend and ready to tackle the long road to recovery one day at a time.
The double World Cup winner injured his right knee during Leinster’s Vodacom URC defeat to the Glasgow Warriors in March, bringing a premature end to his club season and almost certainly his 2026 campaign with the Springboks.
It’s the latest cruel setback for the 31-year-old, who missed almost three years of Test rugby after suffering back-to-back ACL injuries to his left knee during his time at Munster.
Snyman eventually returned for the Springboks ahead of the 2023 World Cup in France and played a key role in their title defence.
Speaking on the GameTime podcast alongside former Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff, Snyman admitted he is not yet thinking about the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
“I think it’s a bit early for that question, to be honest, because there’s a whole season that lies ahead,” said Snyman when asked about his long-term goals. “And obviously a lot of prep work.
“I know the guys’ minds and heads would be ‘next job, next job’ mentality and focus on the now.”
The towering lock also acknowledged how difficult it will be watching the Springboks’ 2026 campaign from the sidelines.
“Obviously for me this season is just focusing on getting back on the field and getting back to playing and trying to do whatever I can to still support the guys or still support the team in any way possible,” he said. “But obviously it’s a bit of a sh*t one to miss out.”
