Stormers lock Riley Norton says Pieter-Steph du Toit is the benchmark for the career he wants to build after fully recovering from injury.
Cruelly, a hamstring injury suffered in training prevented Norton from making his Springbok debut against England at Ellis Park in July after he had played against the Barbarians to kick-off the international season.
The injury proved a setback, but the 20-year-old has refused to dwell on it.
“There is a lot of work to do and aspects of my game that can improve. I focus on that,” Norton told Rapport. “I also know that I am still young and will get better with more experience.”

Norton says his recovery has gone better than expected, with the Stormers’ medical team playing a key role.
“After nine weeks I was able to train fully. It is now 10 weeks since the injury and I am training without any discomfort or pain,” he said.
His brief taste of the Springbok environment has only strengthened his ambitions, with Norton eager to establish himself in the Vodacom URC and force his way back into the national set-up.

And when it comes to his development, Norton has an obvious role model.
“I have learned a lot from him and how he sees the game,” he said of the latest Bok centurion.
“There is and will only be one Pieter-Steph du Toit. I want to use what I learn from him to build my career as well as I can.”
