Lions forwards coach Wessel Roux says a combination of factors contributed to their lineout woes against Edinburgh.
The visitors lost six lineouts in last Friday night’s 31-10 defeat at Hive Stadium, their second successive heavy away loss in the URC after winning their opening two matches at home.
The result saw the Lions drop to 11th on the log ahead of Friday night’s round-five clash against the Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium.
STATE OF THE URC: Sharks bite, Lions bruised
“The lineouts were a problem at times,” Roux admitted on Tuesday. “In our review, we said to each other that it was almost like the perfect storm, with a lot of things going wrong at the same time.
“The weather was difficult, with the wind and rain, but that’s not an excuse. The opposition played in the same conditions.
“We just had a combination of calls that were communicated incorrectly. Once or twice we made the wrong call, so there was a communication issue between the players and the hooker, which is something we’ve worked on.
“And at certain times Edinburgh were just really good. Sometimes you make a call and the opposition goes up in exactly that spot.
“So it was just a combination of a few things, but we’ve spoken about it and found solutions.”
CASH: Lions lineout not good enough
The Edinburgh defeat followed an emotional week in La Rochelle, where Lions lock Hyron Andrews died a day before their Investec Champions Cup match against the French club.
“We knew it was going to be difficult to recover after the La Rochelle week and what happened there,” said Roux. “And we knew that Edinburgh was going to be really difficult in terms of focus.
“It felt like a perfect storm. A lot of different factors just kind of met, and it created this really difficult place to survive, to think, to thrive and to play rugby.”

The Lions now face an unbeaten Glasgow side sitting second on the URC log with three wins and a draw from four matches, including a 24-20 victory against Benetton in Treviso last weekend.
“They’re a really good side,” said Roux. “Most of them are international players, really well coached by Franco [Smith], and they have a real attacking mindset with amazing skills in the wet. Their set-piece is also good.”
