SA stars join Champions Cup shoot

The Bulls, Lions and Stormers were among 24 clubs represented at EPCR Content Collection Day in London this week.

The major logistical undertaking ahead of the 2026-27 Investec Champions Cup season was thrown into chaos by a shutdown at Heathrow Airport.

Dozens of prominent rugby figures descended on the Lensbury Hotel in Teddington, southwest London, for a day of filming, interviews and sponsor activations designed to generate content for the tournament’s season-opening promotional push.

With travel disrupted for many of the touring parties, EPCR staff were forced to rework schedules on the fly, but pulled the event off with minimal disruption.

Representing the Bulls was flanker Nizaam Carr, with Carr an enthusiastic participant throughout, taking full advantage of the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces from across the competition.

Ruan Ackermann mucked in for the Stormers and Lions captain Francke Horn did duty for the Lions.

Among the players and personalities on site were Will Skelton, Alex Mitchell, Jack Conan and Ben Earl, along with Dan Cole and Ben Youngs, who doubled up as hosts of the For the Love of Rugby podcast.

South African representation was strong beyond the big SA three, with Jeremy Ward (Stade Français) and Jaco Coetzee (Bath) also involved in various content stations through the day.

England Women coach John Mitchell, there with the Red Roses, was also staying at the same hotel.

The Lensbury was selected as the venue in part due to its own on-site rugby field, a facility regularly used by England’s men’s and women’s national teams for training.

The day formed part of a broader push by EPCR to service its network of commercial partners and sponsors ahead of the new season, with clubs rotating through a series of branded activations and interview stations designed for use across the tournament’s digital and broadcast platforms in the months ahead.

Beyond the content itself, the event offered clubs a rare chance to engage directly with rival teams and their respective communications departments, relationship building that organisers say helps underpin the competition’s collaborative approach across England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and South Africa.

The 2026-27 Investec Champions Cup season gets underway on 16 October.
