Sacha injury prognosis revealed

Scans have shed light on the ankle injury suffered by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu during the Stormers’ Vodacom URC quarter-final win against Cardiff.

The Springbok flyhalf was on crutches after the match in Cape Town, having gone over awkwardly while scoring a second-half try.

According to News24, Feinberg-Mngomezulu sustained a syndesmosis injury – commonly known as a high ankle sprain – and the initial prognosis is that he could be sidelined for around three months.

That rules him out of the remainder of the Vodacom URC and the Springboks’ Nations Championship matches against England, Scotland and Wales in July.

The 24-year-old also faces a race against time to be fit for the Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks, which starts on 22 August.

“It looks pretty serious, to be honest,” Stormers coach John Dobson said after Saturday’s match. “He’s obviously going for a scan. The doctors have given me some feedback, but it looks like a proper ankle injury.”

With Feinberg-Mngomezulu ruled out, Jurie Matthee is set to wear the Stormers No 10 jersey in Saturday’s semi-final against defending champions Leinster in Dublin.
