Paul Roos Gimnasium fought back from 15-0 down to beat Garsfontein at the Wildeklawer Tournament in Kimberley on Friday.
The Stellenbosch side claimed a 21-18 win in the headline fixture, turning the match on its head after a dominant first-half showing from Garsfontein.
The Pretoria outfit looked in control early on, racing into a 15-7 lead at the break through tries from wingers Neil de Kock and Yuvrah George.
But the momentum shifted after the break with the introduction of replacement scrumhalf Tristan Armitage, who brought urgency and control to Gimmies’ attack.
Armitage’s influence proved decisive as Paul Roos gradually worked their way back into the contest, with accurate goal-kicking from Daniel Whitehead – who converted all three tries – keeping them in touch before sealing the comeback.
Earlier, hosts Diamantveld thrilled their home crowd with a 40-29 win over Queen’s College.
Fullback Tyler Campher was outstanding, while winger Mikyle Muller and eighthman Heinrich Swart also crossed in a strong first-half showing.
Nico Malan secured a 31-24 victory against EG Jansen, with fullback Leighton Lawrence playing a key role, converting all four tries and adding a penalty in a match-winning performance.
