Scumie Serves Grit & Soul On 20-Track Double Album “AVANT: TIRAMISU” South African alternative hip-hop artist Scumie has officially entered a new chapter with the release of AVANT: TIRAMISU, an ambitious 20-track double album that balances her experimental instincts with a softer, more soulful side.

Born Zamazitha Mnqandi in Midrand, Scumie has steadily built a reputation as one of the country’s most unpredictable young artists. Her journey began with production before she expanded into rapping and singing, developing a distinctive sound through her 066 series. Her 2025 debut studio album, 066, Vol. 3, further established her as an artist capable of blending sharp lyricism, melodic experimentation and atmospheric production while maintaining an underground edge.

Earlier this year, Scumie hinted at another evolution when she introduced fans to what she called “neo-soul Scumie” and teased a project titled Tiramisu. That idea has now grown into AVANT: TIRAMISU, a two-disc release that captures two contrasting sides of her artistry.

The first half, AVANT, is rooted in the fearless experimentation that has become synonymous with Scumie’s music. The 10-track disc features “burberry,” “canned Milk,” “feel good,” “btch,” “locally hated,” “no adlibs,” “cocomelon,” “truck,” “garham’s Interlude”, and “duma” featuring Shia Choo.

If AVANT represents the more abrasive and rebellious side of Scumie, TIRAMISU offers a noticeably warmer contrast. The second 10-track disc includes “oh dear,” “manifestation break,” “head right,” “emlotheni,” “don’t call,” “young ho,” “where?,” “am i ready? (freestyle),” “all along” and “hermothy outerlude.”

The titles alone point toward a more introspective chapter, with the project leaning into vulnerability, self-reflection and soulful textures without abandoning the individuality that has defined Scumie’s work.

The visual campaign surrounding the release has also reflected the duality of the project. Earlier promotional images presented Scumie in moods that shifted between rebellious intensity and quieter moments of reflection, reinforcing the contrast between the two sides of the album.

True to her understated approach, Scumie’s announcement of the release was brief. “AVANT:TIRAMISU. Aug 14th,” she posted, later following it with, “yours Aug 14th. ty4everything. 🖤

That message carries added weight given how quickly her career has developed. From early SoundCloud releases to appearances on major stages and growing international recognition, Scumie has continued to build without allowing herself to be confined to one particular sound or identity.

At 20, with her 21st birthday arriving on August 15, the artist is already demonstrating a creative confidence that extends well beyond her years. Her work as a producer, rapper and singer has allowed her to approach music from multiple angles, and AVANT: TIRAMISU may be her most complete demonstration of that versatility yet.

The album is now available across major streaming platforms, allowing listeners to experience both sides of Scumie’s latest evolution. From the rougher edges of AVANT to the smoother textures of TIRAMISU, the project embraces the contradictions that make her artistry difficult to categorise.

Scumie once described her music as “raw in a curated way.” With AVANT: TIRAMISU, she appears to be leaning fully into that philosophy, serving up something experimental, personal and deliberately unconventional.
