The Sharks have tied down an inspirational forward known for his leadership and versatility across the back row for the next three seasons.
The Durban-based outfit announced on Monday that Nick Hatton has agreed to a new deal, keeping him at the Shark Tank until 2029.
The 23-year-old loose forward made his senior debut in the 2022 Currie Cup, only a year after matriculating from Hilton College, and by 2024 he was captaining the Sharks’ Currie Cup side at 21.
KOCH: Sharks want to win trophies
Under his guidance, the team went on to lift the trophy that season, and Hatton has become an integral member of JP Pietersen’s squad.
Comfortable at No 8 or on the side of the scrum, Hatton was named the Sharks Currie Cup Player of the Season in 2025-26 and last month, led his troops against the All Blacks in the second tour match of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series at Kings Park.
Hatton will form part of a four-man leadership group for 2026-27, with André Esterhuizen retained as captain alongside co-captains Emile van Heerden and Vincent Tshituka.
