Spain will join Portugal, Romania and Georgia at the 2027 Rugby World Cup as Europe’s four direct qualifiers after reaching the Rugby Europe Championship semi-finals.
Spain’s return to the World Cup is historic, marking their first appearance since 1999. Georgia, meanwhile, continues its remarkable streak, securing a seventh consecutive World Cup berth since debuting in 2003.

Portugal will make their third World Cup appearance and second in a row after a strong campaign in France 2023. Romania, a traditional rugby power, will feature in their 10th tournament, reinforcing their status in the competition.
Four other European teams — Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands — are still in the hunt for a place at the final qualification tournament in November 2027, which offers one last chance to reach rugby’s biggest stage.
The 2027 edition will feature a revamped 24-team format and a round of 16, expanding global representation and adding an extra layer of competition to the tournament.
