The Stormers have not accepted an EPCR committee’s recommendation to suspend hooker JJ Kotzé for foul play in the opening week of the Investec Champions Cup.
Kotzé was sent off in the 33rd minute of Saturday’s 49-12 win against the Bristol Bears at Cape Town Stadium for a dangerous tackle on scrumhalf Kieran Marmion, in contravention of Law 9.13. French referee Kevin Bralley issued a 20-minute red card.
The law states that a player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.

A foul play review committee studied the official report, video footage and submissions from the player and club. It determined a three-week suspension, which the Stormers did not accept.
An independent disciplinary committee, chaired by Englishman Daniel Gore with Bogdan Zebega of Romania and Chris Morgan of Wales, will hear the matter by video conference on Wednesday.
If Kotzé’s sanction is upheld, the 25-year-old is set to miss the Stormers’ round-four URC clash against the Scarlets in Cape Town on Saturday, as well as next week’s visit by Ulster and the 5 December derby rematch with the Sharks at Kings Park.
