The DHL Stormers will be without Angelo Davids for the rest of their Vodacom URC campaign after the winger was banned for a dangerous tackle on Lions playmaker Sanele Nohamba.
Davids has been handed a three-week ban for the tackle that led to a red card during the DHL Stormers’ win against the Lions in Cape Town.
The 25-year-old will miss the Vodacom URC playoffs, where the Stormers will take on Glasgow Warriors in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
A citing commission found that the incident met the red card threshold and warranted a mid-range entry point of six weeks.
However, a 50% (three weeks) mitigation was applied due to Davids’ good record, early acceptance of the red card and immediate apology to Nohamba.
Davids could still return for the URC grand final, if he completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme and shaves a week off his ban.
Fit-again wing Ben Loader, who played off the bench against the Lions, is set to replace Davids in the Stormers’ starting lineup for the quarter-finals.
