Winger Lleyton Davids has been rewarded for a standout pre-season performance for the Stormers with his first professional contract.
The 25-year-old speedster caught the Cape side’s attention after scoring 31 tries in 19 matches for Robertson Town in Boland club rugby this season.
That earned the three-time former South African senior triple jump champion an opportunity to train with the Stormers before he was selected for their URC warm-up clash against the Bulls in Paarl.
Davids, who can run the 100m in 10.3 seconds, made the most of his chance, rounding Bulls flyer Thaakir Abrahams before racing down the touchline to score a try that went viral on social media.

While Davids was not included in the Stormers’ URC squad, director of rugby John Dobson made it clear that the ‘Robertson Express’ was part of their longer-term plans.
“That guy is a freak in every way,” Dobson said. “He is someone we’re going to invest in. We’ve seen enough.
“We took a punt based on some grainy footage and a drive through Robertson, and we think there’s something special there.”

Dobson cautioned that Davids would need time to adjust to the demands of professional rugby, particularly under the high ball.
“It’s going to take him a year – at least a year,” he said. “We’re going to keep developing him and keep him with us.”
