Tasha HendrixX Reflects On Releasing ‘Against All Odds’ While Pregnant As Mixtape Turns One. Rapper and multi-talented creative Tasha HendrixX is reflecting on a defining chapter of her musical journey as her debut mixtape, Against All Odds (A.A.O.), celebrates its first anniversary.
Released on 7 October 2025, the 11-track project arrived at a time when the Pretoria-born artist was navigating pregnancy while independently bringing her music to life. Looking back on the experience in a heartfelt social media post this week, HendrixX admitted that exhaustion nearly overshadowed the excitement of releasing her first mixtape.
“I’m a few days late and it only hit me today,” she wrote. “My baby, my first Mixtape – Against All Odds. One year and a few days ago on October 7 2025 I released this tape. Actually while being pregnant. And I just remember feeling a bit of regret bout dropping it because I was so exhausted all the time barely had the strength to push it, shoot videos or anything really.”
Despite the physical demands of pregnancy, HendrixX pressed ahead with the release, choosing to put her work out into the world even when the process felt overwhelming. The months that followed brought another major milestone as she and her husband, rapper PdotO, welcomed their daughter, Zarah Simphiwe Mnyande, in early June 2026.
With a year of perspective behind her, the artist now sees the project differently. What initially felt like a difficult release has become a reminder of the impact her music can have on those who connect with it.
“But when I realised how much it meant to the people who indulged in A.A.O I knew I did the right thing by putting it out,” she continued. “Thank you to those who gave it and still be giving it streams and love. And if you missed it, it’s never too late to listen. Happy One Year+ A.A.O.”
Beyond marking a personal milestone, Against All Odds showcased HendrixX’s versatility as an independent artist. A qualified audio engineer and video editor, she recorded, mixed and mastered the entire project herself, with PdotO taking on executive production duties.
The mixtape moves between introspective storytelling and harder-hitting anthems, featuring guest appearances from Frank The Outcast, Tae Africa, ZuluMecca and PdotO. Among its standout tracks are the title song, “StrobeLights” featuring ZuluMecca, “FreeSoul” and “WayUP.”
Its themes of perseverance, self-belief and staying true to one’s creative vision also reflected HendrixX’s approach to making music. In the lead-up to the release, she spoke about learning not to force collaborations and instead choosing to work with people who genuinely believed in the music and its direction.
A year later, Against All Odds continues to find new listeners, with tracks securing playlist placements and “StrobeLights” reaching another streaming milestone following the release of its official music video in September 2026. HendrixX also edited the video herself, extending her hands-on creative approach beyond the recording studio.
Rather than centring her anniversary reflection on streaming figures or industry recognition, HendrixX focused on something more personal: the people who have continued to support and listen to the project. Their response has reinforced her belief that releasing the mixtape, despite the challenges she faced at the time, was the right decision.
For an artist who takes on multiple roles throughout the creative process, Against All Odds stands as a testament to persistence and the willingness to keep creating even when circumstances are far from ideal.
The mixtape remains available on all major streaming platforms, with HendrixX encouraging those who have yet to experience it to give the project a listen.
