Australia A completed a clean sweep of their two-match tour of the USA in New Jersey on Friday with a 52-0 rout of an Eagles side packed with South African players.
Ex-Stormers and Western Province flank Marno Redelinghuys captained the Eagles, while ex-Junior Bok David Coetzer started at fullback, Wayne van der Bank in the midfield and Ruben de Haas at scrumhalf. Former Junior Boks centre Dan Kriel, brother of double World Cup winner Jesse, came off the bench.
The visitors scored eight tries to complete another dominant performance, having beaten the Eagles 61-12 in Nashville last week.
Flyhalf Harry McLaughlin-Phillips contributed 17 points via a try and six conversions. He also played a hand in several other scores, including a break that put No 8 Joe Brial over.
MARNO: Huge honour to captain USA
Australia A led 33-0 at half-time after tries from Matt Faessler, Corey Toole, Kalani Thomas, Mac Grealy and Nick Frost.
McLaughlin-Phillips and Brial added further tries after the break, before replacement Lington Ieli crossed in the final minute to complete the half-century.
The hosts could not find a way through the Australian defence despite enjoying periods of pressure, while Luke Reimer’s yellow card further complicated their efforts.
AUSTRALIA A – Tries: Joe Brial, Harry McLaughlin Phillips, Corey Toole, Matt Faessler, Mac Grealy, Kalani Thomas, Lington Ieli, Nick Frost. Conversions: McLaughlin-Phillips (6).
