Injured captain Dewi Lake could miss Wales’ Rugby Championship Test against the Springboks at Kings Park on Saturday, with coach Steve Tandy flying in back-up.
According to WalesOnline, hooker Elliot Dee was expected to fly to South Africa on Monday after Lake limped off during the second half of Wales’ 35-31 defeat to Argentina last week.
No official update has been issued on Lake’s fitness, although Tandy said post-match the squad would have a clearer picture within 24 hours after players received treatment.

If Lake is unavailable, WalesOnline suggests Jac Morgan would take over the captain’s armband against the Boks. Ryan Elias and Evan Lloyd are the other hookers currently in the touring squad.
The 55-cap Dee was a surprise omission from Wales’ extended training squad earlier this year.
He was in the Republic last month when he represented the Barbarians against the Boks, while his last appearance for the Welsh Dragons came versus England at the end of the 2025 Six Nations.
