Dave Rennie’s men found themselves under pressure midway through the second half of last week’s 33-16 defeat at Ellis Park, with South Africa winning three successive 5m scrum penalties to pin the Kiwis close to their own tryline.

With the Boks poised to turn that set-piece dominance into points, they opted for another scrum, but a delay while Eben Etzebeth changed his boots stalled their momentum.
The penalty then went New Zealand’s way, allowing the visitors to clear their 22, gain field position and wrestle control of the contest from the hosts.
