Pep Guardiola has declared after the shocking defeat of Man City by Tottenham in the Carabao Cup that his side is in trouble.
Manchester City’s injury crisis worsened following their 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham, leading Pep Guardiola to acknowledge his side is “in trouble.” City, already dealing with a series of injuries to key players, saw both Manuel Akanji and Savinho added to the list, with Akanji pulling out during warm-ups and Savinho stretchered off with an ankle injury.
This loss also ended City’s unbeaten streak for the season.
The injury concerns include notable absentees like Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Kyle Walker.
Erling Haaland, who was rested for this match, remains a doubt due to Guardiola’s caution in preserving the Norwegian striker’s fitness.
In his post-match press conference, Guardiola highlighted the challenges, “We are down to 13 players, so it’s really difficult. I think we’re in trouble, because in nine years, we’ve never faced a situation with this many injuries. But in these moments, players step up, and we’re more united than ever. We’ll do our best with the limited recovery time.”
City faces a grueling schedule with three away games ahead of the November international break.
They travel to Bournemouth on Saturday, then head to Lisbon to face Sporting CP in the Champions League, and finally, round off with a trip to Brighton.
