George North has announced he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on one of the greatest careers in Welsh rugby history.
The 34-year-old Welsh icon said the time was right to step away after fulfilling what he described as a lifelong dream in the game.
“I want to let you know that at the end of the season, I will be retiring. For me, it’s the right time,” North said in a social media video.
“I have been able to live out my childhood dream for many seasons, playing with some of the best players, coaches and staff.”

North already retired from Test rugby in 2024 after a remarkable international career with Wales.
The powerful wing and centre scored 47 tries in 121 Tests between 2010 and 2024 and played a central role during one of the most successful eras in Welsh rugby.
He helped Wales win four Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, and became one of the most feared attacking weapons in world rugby.
North burst onto the international stage in unforgettable fashion when he scored twice on debut against the Springboks in 2010.
At just 18 years old, he became Wales’ youngest-ever Test try scorer.
His rise continued at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, where he became the youngest player to score a try in tournament history.
North also represented the British & Irish Lions on two tours, earning three Test caps and scoring twice across the 2013 and 2017 series.

After starring for Northampton Saints and Ospreys, North spent the final chapter of his career with French club Provence Rugby.
His time in France was disrupted by injury after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in his final Test appearance for Wales against Italy in 2024.
