Benhard sidelined indefinitely

Benhard Janse van Rensburg’s England career has been put on hold after the South African centre was stood down from all rugby duties indefinitely.

This comes after two significant concussions in the 29-year-old’s last three games.

England coach Steve Borthwick confirmed that Janse van Rensburg will miss next month’s Nations Championship campaign, including fixtures against the Wallabies, Japan and the All Blacks, as well as the finals weekend in London.

“Benhard has seen a specialist and been advised to take a number of weeks of non-contact work before his reintroduction to rugby over the coming weeks,” Borthwick said.

Janse van Rensburg’s latest concussion came during Bristol’s defeat to Northampton on 3 October, when he was knocked unconscious while attempting to tackle England teammate Henry Pollock. The incident caused considerable concern among players, who called on the referee to stop the match.

Janse van Rensburg made his England debut against Fiji in July and has earned two Test caps.
