Dobbo: Can’t wait to welcome Cheslin back home

Cheslin Kolbe’s sensational return to the Stormers is about far more than just what he can do on the field.

That’s according to Stormers director of rugby John Dobson, who believes the double World Cup winner’s homecoming will inspire an entire generation of players and supporters in Cape Town.

The Stormers officially confirmed on Monday that Kolbe will return to the franchise next season as part of the club’s ambitious “Project 2029”.

“Cheslin is a son of this community and has remained a staunch Stormers fan his whole life,” Dobson said.

“He gives such hope and inspiration to our fans, so to have him back in our club colours is huge.”

Kolbe left the Stormers in 2017 before establishing himself as one of the world’s best backs during trophy-laden spells with Toulouse, Toulon and Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath.

Dobson believes the 49-Test Springbok’s impact will stretch far beyond his dazzling footwork and attacking brilliance.

“As a player, he can do things on the field that nobody else can,” said Dobson.

“Beyond that, his attitude and work ethic are second to none.”

Dobson also revealed that several top South African players had shown interest in joining the Stormers, but said the return of Kolbe and Siya Kolisi marked a major moment in the club’s long-term vision.

“We can’t wait to welcome him home,” he said.
