Former Bulls coach joins Stormers set-up

The Stormers XXIII have strengthened their coaching ranks ahead of the 2026 Currie Cup.

According to Rapport, the experienced Pine Pienaar joins the team as a defence consultant and replaces Craig Childs, who has since taken up a role as defence coach at the Leicester Tigers under former England lock Geoff Parling.

The appointment brings a wealth of experience to the Stormers XXIII set-up.

Pienaar previously coached the Bulls’ Currie Cup side and served as defence coach at Loftus under Jake White. During his time in Pretoria, he also worked alongside respected coaches including Frans Ludeke and John Mitchell.

REPORT: Leinster see off Stormers to set up Bulls final

The former Grey College 1st XV coach left the Bulls in 2023 before joining Allister Coetzee‘s coaching staff for Namibia’s campaign at the 2023 World Cup.

Despite attracting coaching interest from Japan in recent years, Pienaar elected to remain in South Africa for family reasons.

He will continue serving as commercial manager at Paul Roos Gymnasium while consulting with the Stormers XXIII during the Currie Cup.

DOBBO: For 68 minutes we dared to dream

Pienaar joins a coaching group that includes Tom Dawson-Squibb, Brok Harris, Helmut Lehmann and Dewaldt Duvenage as the Stormers XXIII prepare for a competition that runs from 18 July to 12 September.

It remains unclear whether Labeeb Levy, who oversaw Western Province’s Currie Cup campaign last season, will return to the coaching set-up.
