The artist, who affectionately refers to her supporters as the “loveclub”, expressed her gratitude to everyone who took the time to stream and connect with the project. Celebrating the achievement, she wrote, “Not bad for a girl from floors township,” before adding an enthusiastic, “Angithi SWEEDAT!!! MY SWEEEDAT 😭😭😭💿.”

Beyond celebrating the project’s reception, Lordkez gave listeners a glimpse into the creative process through a collection of fun facts about some of its standout songs.

Among the revelations was that “Aweh” became one of the biggest songs in South Africa, spending six consecutive weeks at number one on radio. She also revealed that “Trap Phone” remains her personal favourite track on the project, making sure to emphasise her attachment to the song.

Other revelations offered a more personal look into the stories behind the music. Lordkez wrote “Lovecity” during her first trip to Paris while opening for Mi Casa on their European tour, while “One Way Ticket” came together in the aftermath of a breakup.

She also disclosed that “Boogie” involved a ghostwriter whose identity she is keeping under wraps, joking that listeners would not believe her if she revealed the name. Interestingly, the title track, “You, Me & the 90s”, almost made it onto the project without a rap verse, while “Settle Down” was recorded in one complete take.

Adding another important detail to the celebration, Lordkez proudly confirmed that she is operating independently, ending her list of revelations with the declaration: “WE INDEPENDENT!!!!! 😝”

However, her Instagram update went beyond the music and its achievements. The singer also reflected on a defining period in her life, recalling how a decision to wear red shoes and embrace her natural hair became part of a personal turning point a year ago.

She credited her team for their patience throughout the journey and opened up about the emotional weight of creating music, explaining that every part of the process comes from a deeply personal place.

“Actual footage of me almost giving up last year. The process of making music for me is real. I feel my way through everything. I put my heart and soul into this. FOR REAL,” she shared.

Despite the difficult moments, Lordkez appears to have her eyes firmly set on what comes next. Making it clear that You, Me & the 90s is not the final destination, she concluded her update with an exciting announcement: “This is the beginning. 🪩 NEW ALBUM OTW !!!!!!!”

With six consecutive weeks at number one on radio for “Aweh”, a growing catalogue of personal stories and the freedom of operating independently, Lordkez has plenty to celebrate. More importantly, her latest announcement suggests that she is already preparing to take her artistry into a new chapter.
