Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s attacking flair makes him the ideal Springbok 10 for the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series, according to ex-All Blacks hooker James Parsons.
The mercurial Bok and Stormers playmaker is set to make his return from a long-term ankle injury against Argentina in Buenos Aires next Saturday.
Speaking on the Aotearoa Rugby Pod, Parsons believes Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s fearless approach could prove a genuine threat to the All Blacks when the series kicks off at Ellis Park on 22 August.

“Feinberg-Mngomezulu is all-out attack. He is going to match fire with fire, like we’ve spoken about the All Blacks and their mindset to be all-out attack,” he said.
“I’m not saying he’s Carlos Spencer, but I am saying he’s Carlos Spencer-like; it’s the no-look kick or no-look pass – he’s going to do things that you haven’t seen before on a rugby field and try to catch you off guard.
“The other thing is, he wants to win by 15 points. I think when he was going for a 50:22 [against Argentina last year], he chased the kick and he scored a try. Not once did he take the pedal off,” Parsons added.
“It wasn’t like he was trying to create more for himself – he was playing footy … that’s a big threat because defensively he’s hard to prepare for, because of the unknown which then creates the hesitation to allow the basics to shine as well.
“You’re expecting the phenomenal, then sometimes the basics will do the job because of that expectation.”

World Cup winners Manie Libbok and Handré Pollard were among four different flyhalves used by Rassie Erasmus in the Boks’ first four matches of 2026, with one or both also set to feature in the one-off Los Pumas Test.
Parsons also weighed in on Libbok’s game, and why Erasmus starting Feinberg-Mngomezulu in the series opener could set South Africa up nicely.
“I feel like Feinberg-Mngomezulu, even if the game’s in the balance, he’s attacking, he’s all chips in. That’s just the way he plays,” he noted.
“Libbok, he’s got the patience of Pollard, to win a game by threes or in a sort of chess style and then does have the ability to crank up the flare if the pictures present in a timely manner. Feinberg-Mngomezulu doesn’t see it like that.
RASSIE: SA crowds in for a treat
“You can give him a defensive picture, but he still thinks he can wear you down or find a gap or weakness.
“You take the first Test for example: Feinberg-Mngomezulu starts and it doesn’t go to plan, then you can go to Libbok or Pollard to make sure you win the second Test. They have options.”
