The Cheetahs are reportedly making progress in their bid to sign a promising Stormers playmaker as Frans Steyn continues to add depth to his squad.
According to Rapport, Steyn and his coaching team are working to bring the versatile Dominic Malgas to Bloemfontein ahead of next season.
Malgas, who can cover several backline positions, has been named at flyhalf for the Stormers XXIII’s Currie Cup derby against Boland on Sunday after an impressive senior debut against defending champions Griquas.
The former Nico Malan High School pupil came off the bench at half-time after captain Jean-Luc du Plessis suffered a knee injury, keeping his composure to slot a crucial penalty in the Stormers’ victory.

Malgas is regarded as one of South Africa’s brightest young backs, having been part of last year’s World Rugby U20 Championship-winning Junior Springbok squad.
The reported move forms part of the Cheetahs’ drive to strengthen their playing stocks under Steyn. The Free Staters have already recruited Henry Immelman, Simon Miller, Faf de Klerk and Siya Ningiza in recent months.

Those arrivals have helped offset several departures, with Franco Smith Jnr joining Rovigo, Cameron Dawson moving to the Sharks and Vernon Paulo linking up with the Stormers.
