Toya Delazy Reflects On Career Struggles As New EP Release Nears. Zulu princess and genre innovator Toya Delazy has delivered a powerful and unfiltered message to fans, declaring victory over years of industry resistance while reaffirming her commitment to a purpose-driven artistic journey.

“Peeps, I know it’s possible! Like it was written in my name from the start,” she shared on X, “I’m still as eager as I was in the beginning. I don’t mind how long it takes. This is my journey. It’s a vocation, not a destination.”

Born Latoya Nontokozo Buthelezi in eMahlabathini, KwaZulu-Natal, Delazy carries royal lineage from the Buthelezi family and has consistently embraced her identity as both artist and cultural pioneer. She first captured national attention in the early 2010s with vibrant pop releases such as Due Drop and Ascension, showcasing her range as a singer, dancer, and performer.

Her trajectory shifted when she chose independence over major-label backing, a decision she says led to doors closing across the industry. In 2017, she relocated to London, launched her own label, and began shaping her signature Afro-rave sound, a fusion of Zulu mantras with electronic, jungle, gqom, techno, and drum and bass influences.
