Veteran fullback Willie le Roux says excitement is building in the Vodacom Bulls camp ahead of Friday night’s URC final against Leinster in Dublin. MORNÉ ESBEN reports.
After the Bulls’ quarter-final thrashing of Munster and helping inspire their remarkable semi-final comeback against the Glasgow Warriors, Le Roux is targeting one more big performance as the Pretoria-based side looks to end Leinster’s title defence at Croke Park.
“We showed great character in the semi-final coming back from 21-3 down,” he said on Sunday. “The guys are very excited to play against a quality outfit in Leinster. We’re very excited to be part of the final.”
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: The Bulls’ Grandmaster
Leinster enter the decider with one of the most dangerous attacking units in the competition, but Le Roux says the Bulls – who are contesting their fourth final in five seasons – are embracing the challenge rather than fearing it.
The Springbok centurion expects a fiercely contested battle and believes success will depend on contributions throughout the match-day squad rather than any one unit.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Farewell to a Leinster legend
“They’ve got incredible players in the backline, and we as a squad, as a team and as the backs – we’re looking forward to and are up for that challenge.
“It’s still a final and you know how finals go these days, we’ll have to wait and see how the entertainment goes on Friday night.
“You can’t only rely on the forwards – it’s a 23-man game so everyone’s got a job to do and you’ve just got to deliver to the best of your ability.”

For Le Roux, who will be appearing in another major final late in his distinguished career, preparation remains unchanged despite the occasion.
The 101-Test Springbok has built a reputation for thriving in high-pressure matches and says consistency in his routine is one of the keys to performing when the stakes are highest.
“It’s a massive game and we’re all very excited. My routine stays the same – nothing changes – and it puts me in the best position, in the right mindset and the right zone to give my best for the team.
“It’s about the big moments and focus is very important.”
